Trustees Grown

We own and operate six vibrant working farms in eastern Massachusetts: Appleton Farms in Ipswich, Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, The FARM Institute on Martha’s Vineyard, Moose Hill Farm in Sharon, Powisset Farm in Dover, and Weir River Farm in Hingham. We also lease farmland to both family farmers and other non-profit farms across the state.  

Local food and farming matters! While farmland in the nation rapidly disappears, preserving this piece of our collective history is a crucial part of our mission. To encourage more folks to eat locally, our thriving vegetable and meat Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs offer a mix of fresh farm products, and the same great products are available at our farm stores, open to the public. Many of our farms are open to the public and offer fun, family-friendly activities, and events.

Appleton Farms, Ipswich & Hamilton
America’s oldest working farm! Appleton features a dairy and creamery where we produce our own milk and cheese, a grass-fed beef herd, barnyard animals, an educational kitchen, and a Dairy and Farm Store that's open year-round. Educational programs include a summer camp, cooking classes, seasonal events, farm tours, youth and group programs, and farm dinners.  

Powisset Farm, Dover
Just 15 miles from downtown Boston, this land has been farmed for hundreds of years. Powisset features a vegetable farm, a seasonal grass-fed beef herd, chickens and pigs, an educational kitchen, and a seasonal farm store. Educational programs include cooking classes, seasonal events, and youth and group programs. 

Chestnut Hill Farm, Southborough
Southborough’s only remaining working farm, Chestnut Hill became a Trustees farm in 2015. It features a vegetable farm, a seasonal grass-fed beef herd, goats, sheep, chickens, and a seasonal farm store. 

Weir River Farm, Hingham
The last working farm in Hingham, Weir River is known for its family-friendly events and programming. It features a grass-fed beef herd and an educational barnyard with a variety of animals. Educational programs include a summer camp, programs for toddlers and young children, as well as activities for older kids and groups.  

Moose Hill Farm, Sharon
Follow a trail from the farmstead through restored woodlands to hillside hayfields and pastures, where you’ll enjoy views of Great Blue Hill and the Boston skyline. Moose Hill Farm is home base for the Trustees livestock program and features a seasonal herd of grass-fed beef, pastured pigs and chickens. It is also home base for a Cooperative Nature Preschool.

The FARM Institute, Edgartown
The FARM Institute is part of the historic Katama Farm on Martha’s Vineyard. It features a diverse livestock operation, educational garden, popular summer camp, and a variety of educational programs throughout the year for adults and children.
